" Christmas....Christmas Time is Near"

Do you feel different this month? Have you noticed the shining stars above the sky and the cool wind? How about the bright Christmas trees and Christmas lanterns? And of course, are you aware of the little children, some of the youth, and even the senior citizen caroling from house to house? Yes, these are the signs of Christmas season-the most awaited part of the year.

" Every day is a Christmas Day," this is one of the most popular quotes all over the world. According to the Bible, there is no exact date when Jesus Christ is born. But we, the Filipinos are traditionally celebrating the Christmas on every 25th day of December. In addition to this, we cannot remove it from our culture and to every mind of all the Filipinos, because we are baptized and grown up with this kind of occasion. So above all, what are the really essence of celebrating Christmas? For me, we can internalize the message of Christmas by giving or sharing what we have to the miserable ones with all your heart, mind and soul. We can also feel the the true essence of Christmas by showing your care, understanding, attention, and most especially your love to your fellowmen.

Be real to yourself, we should not only show these traits or feelings during the Christmas season but also to the rest of our life for the betterment of yourself, your fellowmen, for the motherland and to our Creator/Savior. I wish that we will all enjoy this Christmas season to the fullest level and I hope it will leave a very momentous experience.

GSP Encampment

The Girls in Green Uniform are very active, and always there to give their ultimate service to everyone who are in need of help. Yes, we the Girls Scouts of Ilocos Sur National High School are ready to face the challenges of life.

Last November 19-22, 2009, was the 39th Senior Scout Provincial Encampment held at CPC Campsite Pug-os Cabugao Ilocos Sur with the theme "Mother's Life and Health is Precious." There was one patrol composed of seven girls who represented our school to participate in the encampment, led by their ever active tita's- Tita Judith, Tita Elvira, and Tita Vangie. I was very happy because I was given the opportunity to join this activity. I can't explain to everybody how happy as I can be, most especially in doing our activities like going to Pikkang Falls to have an educational tour. We also planted seedlings along the mountain. I was challenged when we had a needle work. In this activity we sew gloves and socks for babies. There was also a lecture on ARH or Adolescence Reproductive Health. I learned a lot from this lecture specifically on how to prevent the diseases cause by STD and others. For me the best activity that we had was the cocktail party. Because we have to wear our preggy look alike style with its purpose to internalize mote the feelings of being a mother. During the closing program, we receive an award of "multi-talented patrol" and I individually receive the "Motherly Camper Award."

That ends the provincial encampment for the year 2009. It was a really amazing and great experience of my whole high school life. I hope there will be another joyous and meaningful encampment in the future.

My Pilgrim during the Second Grading Period

Actually I was very happy and contented that my experiences during the second grading period were well-done. Most especially to our main topic the "Basic HTML." At first I didn't understand it because there were lots of unfamiliar terms which I could hardly understand, even though our teacher was explaining it to us. Then I realized that I have to focus and concentrate so that I will never be left behind about our lessons.

As the days passed by, I learned to love what I was doing. I was challenged with the activities that we created individually. At the very beginning, I became ignorant about the tags. And one time, I whispered to myself that "it's so tiresome and it's just giving you a headache in doing these activities." But despite of all these challenges, I tried my ultimate best and pursued my determination to improve my capabilities and skills pertaining this matter. And of course I didn't forget to ask the help of Almighty God to give me more power in studying during the times of lacking in understanding. For the next activities I can already follow, and understand the HTML.

Proving on I will continue the job well done during the second grading period. And I will listen carefully during discussions so that I will never be anymore experiencing from headache and others.

Our Succes: Our Teachers' Sacrifices

" The Future Depend on Teachers." This is the quote that I always keep in my mind since I have decided to take up a teaching profession. It is because I believe in the saying that there's no lawyers, doctors, engineers, nurses, businessmen, and accountants without TEACHERS.

Teaching may not be a lucrative position. It cannot guarantee financial security. It even means investing your personal time, energy and resources. Sometimes it means disappointments, heartaches, and pains. But touching the hearts of people and opening the minds of children can give you joy and contentment which money could not buy. So therefore, we should consider our teachers as our heroes, because of them our lives are improving. Just think of yourself, can you achieve your standing or success today without the aid of your teachers? Well, I think it's not. For me, we can only pay the sacrifices of our teachers by obeying, respecting them, and having self-discipline. Sometimes, students are very pasaway but they can always manage or control their temper. They're also great hero in times when their students are involve in any trouble inside the school. In this matter we can already conclude that our teachers are very responsible, they are always there supporting us morally, financially, emotionally, socially, mentally, and even physically, whatever may happen. One thing I can't forget is my experience when I was in grade 5 way back in the year 2005. Whenever we attended any contests, trainings, or seminars, our teachers always shoulder our fare back and forth, and snacks for morning and afternoon. They were so great.

Maybe when we were young we didn't acknowledge their heroic doings for us. Now that we are growing older, we can already understand the reality behind all the struggles they have and to their smiles. They're such a winner. Lastly, I would like to leave a simple quotation that I borrow from Henry Brooks Adams that "A Teacher affects eternity, he/she can never tell where his/her influence stops.

Adapting to Diverse Science Culture for Development

Science keeps on transforming the world, and trusts to luck that the transformation will be benign, beneficial to the majority.

Today, Science and Technology is a way of life. People keep on diversing materials into a more capable and useful things as part of their cultural development. We all claim to do what is good. Of course, if we make good things, it is not only the credit of the moral choice which led us to good work. Scientific knowledge is an enabling power to do either good or bad. We concern more on good things we experience so we try to keep on searching materials or scientific inventions that would answer to our claims for development or man seems to keep from getting all he thinks he should out of his abilities.

Above all let us always remember and keep in our mind that abusing all scientitific inventions, your capabilities pertaining to Science, and others would lead you in danger. Thus, let's use it properly, accurately, and wisely for the betterment of our future.

Filipino Language: My Own Identity

What comes into your mind if you heard the words “Filipino Language?” Is it a subject? A hero? Or a significant place? We the Filipino citizen must be the first one to be aware about this matter.

For me it’s Manuel L. Quezon that comes into my mind because he is a great hero, not only in the past, but also up to the present times and to the next generations. Quezon is the first president of the Commonwealth, he is also known as the “Father of Philippine Independence.” And when he declared the Flipino Language which was born in Baler, Aurora as our National Language, he was entitled as “Father of Filipino Language.” So, many people have already understand each other in communicating personally. Remember that there were many languages or dialects during the old times and people didn't understand what others were trying to say. This was the primary reason why Quezon declared the Filipino Language as our National Language. In addition, its goal was to spread peace, unity, cooperation, understanding and to promote good camaraderie among people.

A million thanks to you Manuel Quezon, because of you our country have already attained its identity. Eventhough we have so many languages in our country, you pursue Filipino Language as a unique and certain language here in the Philippines. But above all may I leave a simple question you my fellow Filipino that will served as a challenge in your life. "Are you part of the progress and identity of our country?"

"What an Adventure"

Education is accurate to responsibility. It is one of the basic needs of an individual . And also it symbolizes as the key to success. So, it must start from us . For this school year 2009-2010 is another year for challenges, moments, bondings, struggles, burdens, good camaraderies and others in terms of studying. The first quarter is about to end. Everybody is getting busy. We have to sum up all the things that is done. And one thing I can't forget is my adventures from our subject TLE. At first I am very excited about this subject because it is all about computer. Since it is not new to me, I just keep myself in touch of it. There are many things that I've learned such as creating a blog, terms and services on Internet, persons involved behind the history of Internet and many many more.
Honestly speaking, I am not much good in operating the computer. Sometimes I just simply ask my classmates on what to do. And I'm easy to get angry when the Internet is unavailable. One thing more, I'm lacking of time to type because I am slightly slow in typing .
But I did not surrender. I look forward to overcome all of these burdens. With the help of God I do believe that by and by I will improve my waterloos.
Moving on I will try all my very best to pursue what is the best and for the betterment of my studies until the end of my capabilities . With all of my experiences pertaining this matter, it will serve as my guide to improve or develop the things which I am not good. I CAN DO IT.

Insights

Like a commodity, speaking English language in the campus is a necessity. It pays to enrich our speaking ability. The fact is, some of the students don't know how to express theirselves. So the English Club implemented an activity which was entitled "Kindly Speak to me in English or Filipino," and it was launched on July 8, 2009.
This activity is headed by Mrs. Elisa A. Bilgera, Head Teacher of The English Department, Mr. Christian Giron and Ms. Aileen Rosario, Club Advisers, and of course the good leadership of the officers. My insight about this activity is so nice. I do believe that this campaign will help many students to build their skills in speaking English or Filipino language. I can say that this activity will work well because we can see the good coordination of teachers and students. And I can conclude that this simple but effective activity will leave a legacy to the students that were being motivated and well-enhanced.
English language is very important to us . There are many ways it benefited us. So let us not ignore it. We must learn it with all our heart and mind. In addition, speaking of English language can be of great help to students such as expressing oneself in a class discussion, communicating to a foreigner, speaking to the crowd fluently without any feeling of nervous, and others.

"Free from Diseases, Good in Nutririon, Make Us a Better Person"

"Get rid of diseaese," this is our main concern in our daily race of life.

Proper exercise, balance diet are our mighty weapons to combat diseases that everyone can be the victim if the body resistance fails to maintain. We claim to eat delicious foods like adobo, lechon, shrimps, crabs and other expensive foods but we fail to understand the nutritive contents that make us suffer from arthritis, highblood pressure, and others. We want to stay healthy to free oneself from diseases. To maintain such health, enjoy the habit of eating the grow food, the glow food, and the go food. Since proper nutririon is needed by our body to execute our daily responsibilities, we need to maintain our body resistance to fight against diseases.Supplement our body with multi-vitamins and minerals to gain more stamina and power. Eat fiberous foods to flush away the toxins we intake. Healthy lifestyle also needs proper sanitation in our environment. A clean and green surroundings play a vital role in a healthy atmosphere of everyone. We make it as a habit to be clean in all aspect physically, mentally, morally, socially , and spiritually.

A healthy individual, a healthy family, a healthy community make a happy and prosperous country as long as diseases are free.
